SALUTE TO SENIORS! Westlake's Tristan Goodly

NAME: TRISTAN GOODLY

SCHOOL: WESTLAKE

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?

My most memorable jump was from my Junior year when I jumped 48'4" at the Indoor State Meet to break the Division II State Record. I don't think I've ever been more hyped in my life.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My biggest competition would've have to been Harvey Broussard from St. Martinville. We been jumping against each other since our sophomore year and it's always a good battle when the two of us are on the runway.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment would definitely have to be earning All-American Honors by placing 4th in Triple Jump at Nike Outdoor Nationals on Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Who would you consider your biggest role model over your four years of competing?

My biggest role models would have to be my Dad, Arthur Goodly and my older Brother, Xavier Goodly,  because they came before me as jumpers in the family and they helped guide me throughout my high school track career.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running or field career in high school?

I would have trained harder to keep my body healthy so I would've been able to get farther marks and have a better senior season.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome? How did you overcome them?

Definitely the biggest obstacle was self doubt and overcoming it. My senior year I was a starter on my high school basketball team while I competed in indoor track and I had to fight through a nagging injury during indoor season. This set me back on training for outdoor. I committed to getting my body healthy and kept pushing through. You just have to preserve and believe in yourself and keep turning up.

What will you miss the most?

What I'll miss the most is the feeling of winning state each time. Every state championship I've won it was a different indescribable feeling.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

When you don't think you're getting better because you've had a bad practice, at least you out there working harder than the next guy. Just stay level headed and believe in yourself.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

He has had the biggest influence because he taught me everything from a small age so I really owe it all to my coach Arthur Goodly.

What are your post-high school or college plans?

My plans are to play football and continue running track in college for the Southeastern Louisiana Lions while I continue my education majoring in Business.

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

I would like to say thank you to all of the community of Westlake and surrounding areas for supporting me throughout my high school journey and to my coaches and family for always making sure I had what I needed to succeed.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Stay humble, Pray and never forget where you come from.
