Scotlandville's Makeriah Harris said after Saturday's McNeese Indoor No. 1 Meet "I want to be legendary."
Some would argue the junior phenom has already arrived at Legend Status...at least in Louisiana. She continued to make her case for the argument by having the best day of any high school athlete in McNeese Indoor Meet Indoor No. 1 history by breaking two records and joining her teammates on the Scotlandville 4x200m relay to be a part of a third.
Harris' name was already in the McNeese Indoor No. 1 record book when she arrived at the McNeese Recreation Complex on Saturday morning. She set the 400m record with a time of 57.56 as an eighth grader at Placquemine.

Saturday, she added the 60m dash, 60m hurdles to the list and also joined teammates Fatima Banks, Sade Gray, and Madyson Kent to smash the record in the girls 4x200m.
Harris edged out teammate Sade Gray in the finals of 60m. While the 7.24 was good enough for the win, it wasn't the time which gave Harris the record. It was her effort of 7.18 in the semifinal round, which beat Zachary's Janie O'Connor's time of 7.20 set in 2015. Gray's time was 7.31.
In the hurdles, it was more of the same for Harris. Her 8.39 in the finals of 55m hurdles won her a shirt, but it was her 8.35 in the prelims which put her name in the record books-erasing the 8.71 run by Northside's Kim Francis in 2009.
While the Lady Hornets won the 4x200m at last week's LSU High School Classic with a time of 1:41.04, the meet record and the fieldhouse composite record, which they set a year ago, eluded them.
This week, the foursome had no problem with the meet record. Scotlandville, which is currently ranked No. 6 in the nation, dropped their season best to 1:40.51, which is four seconds faster than the meet record set Ruston in 2020, the last year the meet was held.
