VOTE: MileSplit LA's Boys Performer of the Week! (Jan. 2-8)

Zachary's Rhen Langley put on an outstanding show in his first meet of 2023. The LSU signee ran a 1:55.59 in the 800m and then came back to dominate the 3200m. Langley's 9:27.46 narrowly missed the meet record in the event. Langley was recognized by meet officials and given the Track MVP award. For the purposes of our poll, we decided leave the MVP winners off our finalist for MileSplit LA Boys Performer fo the Week. The Poll will close on Saturday at 9pm.

Dutchtown's MONTRELL MORRIS - Morris pickedu up two shirts on a couple of visits to the podium on Saturday at the LSU High School Classic. He finished second in the long jump with a jump of 23-00.75 and followed that with a second place finish in the triple jump (46-6.25).

John Curtis' JUSTIN HORNE - Despite having a long football season, which ended with an LHSAA Division I State Championship for the John Curtis Patriot linebacker, Horne didn't just pick up where he left off in 2022. He returned faster in the opening meet of his senior year. Horne ran a 7.99 in the prelims and then blazed to a 7.90 in the finals, breaking the fieldhouse composite record of 7.92. Horne's time is currently No. 3 in the US.

Woodlawn's MEHKI SMITH - While the uniform has changed for Woodlawn shot putter Mehki Smith, the distances remain out past the 50-foot area for Smith, who competed for Scotlandville during the indoor season a year ago. Smith finished second at the Classic with a best of 51-10.5.

Catholic's MATTHEW MAYNARD - Was the top Louisiana runner in the 1600m with a time of 4:34.72.

St. Louis' MASON ABSHIRE - Abshire opened with a vault of 15-00 at the Classic, which was good enough for second place, especially considering he was jumping against the No. 2 ranked pole vaulter in the nation--John Scott Kendricks, who won the Adidas National Outdoor Championships in North Carolina last summer.

Westgate's MEKHI BOUTTE - Led all Louisiana sprinters at the Classic, running a 6.95 in the finals to finish second in the 60m. Only Warren Easton's Germain Smith-Mata ran faster in the prelims, running a 6.93. Boutte has had more success in the 200m than any other sprint race, and he will get the opportunity to run that event this weekend at the University of Houston.

John CurtisKING TAYLOR - 141 athletes from at least four states ran the 400m last Saturday at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Only one broke 50 seconds in the 400m. Taylor's time of 49.4, although not as fast as his 49.1 in the opener at The Gallaria Games on the banked Mondo track of the Birmingham Crossplex, was no less impressive.
