Karensa Ellis earns All-Louisiana XC honors

NATCHITOCHES -- After leading Northwestern State in every race her freshman year, Karensa Ellis earned one of seven spots on the 2009 All-Louisiana Women's Collegiate Cross Country Team announced Saturday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

The Alexandria-Alexandria Senior High product topped the NSU scorecard in all eight competitions in her rookie season. She was in the top 10 in every race except the Southland Conference Championship.

Ellis won three times, taking first at the NSU Invitational, the Centenary Invitational and the Demon Invitational.

Voting for the All-Louisiana team was done by sports information personnel at universities around the state.

The All-Louisiana "Co-Runners of the Year" were Tinette Burger of McNeese State and Dorcus Kapkiai from Southeastern Louisiana. Naomi Jeruto of Southeastern was voted "Newcomer of the Year" while Dakota Goodman of Nicholls won state "Freshman of the Year" honors.

Sharing the "Coach of the Year" award were Matthew Esche of Nicholls and Josephe Moses from Xavier.

Joining Ellis, Burger, Kapkiai and Goodman on the All-Louisiana team were Amy Guinn from McNeese,

Ebony Harding of Xavier and Lauren Jones of Nicholls.
