RUSTON'S LILY GARRETT (4) COMPETES AT THE LHSAA STATE OUTDOOR MEET
There is something of Youth Movement in girls high school distance running in the state of Louisiana. Of the Top 10 girls in the 1600m, only three are seniors. No. 1 in the ranking, Vandebilt Catholic's Ella Chesnut is headed to LSU. Chesnut has a state best time of 5:05.05.
Denham Springs' Hannah Linebaugh (No.3, 5:10.59) and Ruston's Anna Naff (No. 9, 5:16.48) are the only other two seniors in the Top 10.
Leading the charge next year will be Ruston's Lily Garrett, who Gatorade Cross Country Athlete of the Year Award in the fall of 2021. Garrett ran her fastest time, 5:06.76, at the Region I-5A Meet.
Pushing Garrett for top honors in the state will be another talented Vandebilt Catholic runner. Junior Brynn Kelso had the No. 4 time in the state with a 5:11.63, which she ran at the LHSAA State Outdoor Meet, finishing second to Chesnut.
