Ruston – Joshua Sawe and Amy Guinn led McNeese State to a sweep of the team titles during Saturday’s Louisiana Tech Mook cross counry meet.
With Sawe taking individual honors, the Cowboys won the men’s four mile race with 21 points while Guinn claimed runnerup honors as the Cowgirls won the women’s division with 20 points.
“It was a really good race for us,” said McNeese coach Brendon Gilroy. “Everyone did his or her part and we bunched up the finishes at the top.”
Sawe led a one-two-three finish for the Cowboys and Guinn topped a two through six finish for the Cowgirls. The Cowboys led Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State in the team totals and the Cowgirls beat out Tulane and Northwestern State.
A newcomer to the Cowboys, Sawe ran the four mile distance in 20:18, leading teammates David Rooney and Johnathan Koenck across the finish line. Rooney went 2:35 and Koenck 2:39.
Other finishes for the Cowboys had Jarrett LeBlanc placing fifth at 21:12, Ryan Barrow 10TH with 22:00, Kevin Laughlin 11th at 22:06, Win Koenck 22nd at 22:56 and Matt Fontenot 25th with a 23:10 clocking.
In the women’s race, Guinn ran second in the 4,000 meter race, bowing to Tulane’s Rebecca Coady by only three seconds. Guinn ran 11:55.
The Cowgirl standout was followed across the finish line by Alvy Carragher in third place at 11:56, Fionnuala Ross in fourth at 12:07, Carly Thurman fifth with 12:15 and Aisling Casey sixth. With a 12:16 clocking.
Also for the Cowgirls, Candice McCormick placed ninth at 12:25, D’anne Lambert was 11th at 12:29 and Kara Slaydon 35th with a 14:43.
