A first place effort by Ben Chretien in the javelin at Baylor’s Michael Johnson classic highlighted track and field efforts by McNeese State on Saturday.
The Cowboys and the Cowgirls competed on two different fronts, some athletes competing in Waco and some in the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge.
In Waco, Chretien tossed the javelin 211-0 to win the meet.
Also in Waco, Amanda LeJeune went 133-0 to place third in the women’s javelin and DeAnn Washington tossed the discus a season best 147-11 for third place.
In the LSU meet, the top performance came from Alvy Carragher and Katarina Caraway in the women’s steeplechase. Carragher ran third with a 12:19.94 clocking and Caraway was fourth at 12:38.75.
Also for the Cowgirls, Amy Guinn was sixth in the 1500 meter run with a season best 4:46.84 while Tinette Burger ran ninth at 4:52.91.
Aisling Casey was seventh in the 1500 meter “B” race with a 5:24.8 effort.
Also for the women at LSU, D’Anna Lambert ran 12th in the 800 meters at 2:21.54, Lyndsey Monteith was 15th at 2:24.54 and Kaitlyn Grossie was 21st at 2:40.20.
Candice McCormick ran 14th in the 5000 meters with a 19:26.74 effort and Brittney Kleckley went a season high 11-1 3/4 for 10th place in the pole vault.
Leading the men in Baton Rouge was Michael Dyer with a seventh place in the 800 meters at 1:58.34, a ninth from Jordan Neil in the 1500 meters at 4:14.35 and a 10th from Ryan Barrow in the 5000 meters at 15:28.17.
Jarrett LeBlanc ran a personal best of 4:07.74 in the 1500 meter “B” race.
Next up for the Cowboys and the Cowgirls will be the Drake Relays which will take place April 22-25 in Des Moines, IA and the Northwestern State Relays which will run April 25.
