Combs Wins Heptathlon, ULM Track Has Solid Outing at LSU Purple Tiger Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. – Highlighted by senior Isaac Combs’ win in the heptathlon, the ULM track team had another solid outing in the LSU Purple Tiger Classic Friday night at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse in Baton Rouge, La.

Sophomore Ruslan Hemed came in just three spots behind his Warhawk teammate Combs by taking fourth in the event. ULM was also able to take fourth in the 4x400 meter relay.

Freshman Britt Koestler came in 10th in the mile run with a time of 4:36.60, while his sophomore teammates Kentwan Carter and Kendall Robbins came in 13th and 16th, respectively. Sophomore Jarvis Mansfield finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.31 seconds.

Junior Brandon Smithers came in fifth in the long jump and junior Moses Chelimo crossed in seventh in the 3000-meter run.

“This was a pretty good event overall,” head coach JD Malone said. “The coaches are pleased and we had some good efforts from our kids.”

On the women’s side, senior Destiny Montemayor took second in the weight throw with a toss of 16.79m and took third in the shot put with a distance of 12.46m. Senior Heather Davis leaped a height of 1.65m, good enough for a three-way tie for third place.

Freshman Kelsie Coats finished 13th in the 3000-meter run, while sophomore Jerrica Thomas and junior Natasha Washington came in 10th and 15th respectively in the long jump.
