Bulldogs Lose Heartbreaker in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE -- Louisiana Tech head coach Gary Stanley called the day a “cliff-hanger.”
It truly was a tight finish, but, unfortunately for the Bulldogs, it was two-points in LSU’s favor that gave Tech a close second-place finish at the 2008 LSU Cross Country Invitational at Highland Park in Baton Rouge, La.
“It was a very close race,” Stanley said. “Our guys ran and competed hard, but it was unfortunate that we came so close and could not get the win. We did beat some good teams today.”
Senior Kinsey Dinnel again led the way for the Bulldogs with a time of 25 minutes, 2.6 seconds in the eight-kilometer race to finish second overall. A trio of LSU finishers finished fifth, sixth and seventh before senior Zach Schuler crossed the line at 25:54.4 for ninth place. Senior Nate Davis took twelfth overall at 26:27while sophomore David Monroe finished fourteenth at 26:58.3. Another LSU runner crossed the plane shortly after, while freshman Jack Ramstad finished nineteenth at 27:04.5.
Sophomore Chico Cortez (27:23.0) and sophomore Kyle Davis (27:27.7) finished twenty-fouth and twenty-fifth, respectively, but it would not be enough as LSU would have runners finish higher to get the win.
The top five finishers for each team earn points depending on their respective places, which added up to a 54-56 score in favor of LSU.
Freshman Josh Slocum rounded out Tech finishers at 28:03.2 for a thirty-second place finish. Tech’s average time on the day was 26:09.04.
The Bulldogs will head back into SEC country this coming weekend for the Auburn Invitational Saturday, Oct. 4.
