FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Louisiana Tech's track and field team completed a one-day meet at the 2008 John McDonnell Invitational Saturday highlighted by a first place finish and multiple NCAA Regional Marks.
"We had another real good meet," Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. "I'm proud of the way the kids are running and performing."
Freshman Larry Jones took first place and NCAA Regional Qualifying Mark in the men's discus with a throw of 170 feet, 10 inches, while junior Michael Coleman took a third place finish in both the men's 100-meter dash and 200 meter dash invitationals with times of 10.41 seconds and 20.98, respectively. Coleman's time in the 100 was also regional qualifier.
Freshman Chasidee Lewis finished second in the women's 100 finals with a time of 11.56 for a regional qualifying mark, which currently ranks her 26th in the entire nation. Junior Antoinette Cobb ran a regional qualifying mark of 13.85 in the 100-hurdles.
Freshman Demonte Willis of Homer, La., ran a 47.28 in the men's 400 invitational which barely missed a regional qualifying mark much like junior Cory Denstel's time of 1:50.45 in the men's 800.
In the relays, the women's 4x400 team finished third at 3:45.09, while the 4x100 team also took third at 45.99.
Tech will return to action next weekend at the nationally renowned Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
