PARKWAY'S ALEX GOMEZ COMPETES IN A RACE DURING THE 2023 SEASON

As we get closer to the championship season in Louisiana high school cross country, the action is heating up on courses across the state. The action is also heating in our MileSplit LA Performer Of The Week polls as the top runners across the state look to win and advance for a chance to be named MileSplit LA XC Runner Of The Year at the end of the season.

Congratulations to the following finalists in this week's poll

PRESTON MIRE (HAHNVILLE)-- A week after setting a personal record 15:46 at Catholic, Mire won the Zachary Bronco Stampede this weekend at the Port Hudson Battlefield course with a time of 16:35

TALAN SIEVERS (LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY)-- There is something about North Louisiana that Talan Sievers, the defending D4 state champion, likes. This weekend, Seivers ran a season best 15:10 in a hot race at the Benton Classic. Sievers' time was only five seconds off his D4 Region 2 championship from last year.

SAM IVINS (BENTON)--The freshman ran a 16:45 at the Benton Invitational. While the time placed Ivins No. 20 in the race, it has him at No. 17 among all freshmen in Louisiana. Ivins was just one of a strong showing from the host Benton Tigers, who finished third behind the winning Parkway Panthers. Ruston was the runner-up.

ALEX GOMEZ (PARKWAY)--Gomez played a big part in Parkway's historic performance at the Benton Classic. The Panthers finished in the first four positions. Gomez was third with a personal record 15:09. The average time for Parkway's top five was 15:14.

MADDOX TOLBERT (LAFAYETTE)--The freshman was the runner-up at the Zachary Bronco Stampede with a time of 16:54. Tolbert is currently ranked as the No. 9 freshman in Louisiana after his season-best, personal record of 16:32 at the LCA Knights Invitational.
