Olivia Murphy: Reflection on 2015 XC Posteason

Coming off knee surgery my junior year, I rededicated myself and was determined to have my best high school cross country season. My main goal all season was to help my team win at state and for myself, to have my best finish at the state meet. Coming off a good outdoor track season, I stayed consistent with my training all summer. As everyone knows, it was a very hot summer, so I would get up as early as 6 am to do my long runs knowing it would pay off later. As the season went on I stayed consistent with the little things also such as, eating healthy, doing core, getting enough sleep, etc. I was also fortunate enough to have a teammate who would push me in practice (Claire Crosby). I remained consistent this year by running four races under 18 minutes.

Fast forward to the state meet, this was the first year we had everyone healthy and ready to go. The most satisfying part of the day was when they announced that Mandeville won the state championship, after coming so close in years past. Also, it was individually satisfying to obtain a goal I set for myself this season.

A few days after the state meet, I ran at the Nike South Regional meet at The Woodlands in Texas. I thought the state meet was muddy, but this was ten times worse. Feeling very confident going into the race, my goal was to place in the top 21. The race went off and after a quarter mile going down the first hill, I did a face plant right into the mud. After I got up, I was about in somewhere in the mid 40's place wise, but I was determined not to give up. I slowly worked my way back up into the race. I'm proud of myself to achieve this goal of coming in the top 21 with a final finish of 17th. I was honored with making the all regional team and to represent the state of Louisiana.

I'm excited about the upcoming indoor and outdoor seasons and to continue to make my senior year the best year I've had. Go skippers!!
