Throwback Thursday #8

As the regular season winds down, we still have a couple more meets you can file under the "really fast course" category. One of which is the now infamous Walker High Shootout which is known for giving kids some great PR's in mid to late October each year. Aside from one year where construction cost the course about 50 meters of real estate, the meet has been the host of many sub 16 (and even sub 15) performances for three miles for boys and sub 19 performances for girls.

One such year was 2010 where Matt Rice set the course record of 14:57 while on the girls side Anna Katherine Devitt hit a great time of 17:54. On a day in the low 60s with little breeze both runners set their personal bests (at the time). In order to get there it required a great effort to overcome good competition as Devitt bested Gabrielle Jennings by 4 seconds and Rice beat Cole Stafford and Phillip Aucoin by eight and nine seconds respectively.

Make sure to check out the junior high results, especially on the boys side. Three of the top four went on to win quite some awards.

In the team standings, Jesuit took down Catholic by 4 points while Mt. Carmel defeated Fontainebleau by 14 in the girls race. Four girls teams averaged under 19 minutes while four boys teams averaged under 16. A total of 18 boys broke the 16 minute barrier while on the girls side 13 broke the 19 minute mark. Very similar conditions are expected for this coming weekend. Could we see another excited chapter in the Walker series this Saturday?
