NATCHITOCHES – McNeese State’s Amy Guinn and Mark Hoey swept the individual titles while Louisiana-Lafayette’s women and McNeese’s men took home the team championships at the 2007 NSU Demon Cross Country Invitational Monday afternoon at the Demon Hills Golf Course.

Guinn won the 5k race with a time of 19:51.96, beating out ULL’s Casey Brown by 35 seconds. Northwestern State’s Shannon Foley placed seventh with a time of 21:07.28 while Brittany Culotta earned a top 20 finish with a time of 22:59.03 to place 20th.

For the men’s 8k race, Hoey won his second individual title of the season after clocking 26:28.27. Corey Denstal of Louisiana Tech followed with a time of 26:54.00. The Cowboys, who won the men’s team title with 25 points, had five runners place in the top 10.

NSU’s Chris Pearson place eighth with a time of 27:44.13 while Dusty Dischler finished in 25th place at 29:26:59.

“I was real pleased in the top of both the men and women,” said NSU head coach Leon Johnson. “I thought we ran extremely well, and as a young group, we’re continuing to make improvements.

“The course was very demanding with all of the ups and downs created by the hills,” he said. “But this will get us better prepared for the conference meet.”

ULL won the women’s team title with 27 points followed by Grambling at 60, Centenary 67 and East Texas Baptist 158. Northwestern, McNeese and Louisiana College did not field enough runners to qualify for team scoring.

On the men’s side, McNeese finished with 25 points followed by Louisiana Tech at 65, Grambling 87, Centenary 94, ULL 113, Northwestern 138, East Texas Baptist 244 and Louisiana College at 255.

Other scoring finishes for the Demons had Cade Gentry finishing 33rd with a time of 30:50.62, Galen Mudd 34th at 30:56.39 and Nathanial McReynolds 38th with a time of 32:13.75while Courtney Hershberger (24th at 23:17.54) and JoAnne Penn (28th at 23:49.77) rounded out the Lady Demon runners.
