RUSTON, La. – Behind strong performances from the women’s team and surprising finishes by the men’s team, the ULM cross country team ended the opening weekend of the 2007 season by placing high at the Louisiana Tech Mook 4 Cross Country Invitational at LincolnParishPark on Saturday morning.The Warhawk women, led by senior Amanda Bartlett, picked up a trio of victories in the triple-dual scoring competition. ULM picked up wins against Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeeseState and LouisianaCollege by scores of 22-33, 25-31 and 15-40, respectively.The women also finished with four runners in the meet’s top-10 finishers and five in the top-15. Bartlett tallied the fourth-best time for the 4K course, finishing with a run of 15:31. Freshmen Claire Clark, Jamie Blackman and Brittany Blackman also finished in the top-10 with sub-16 minute times. Senior Jessica Baldino finished the race in 16:10, good for the 11th fastest overall time.On the men’s side, the men posted a 1-1-1 triple-dual score after falling to meet-host Louisiana Tech, 22-33, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette, 22-28, and tying Centenary, 28-28. Junior Andrew Opata finished in the top-10 for the Warhawks, posting a 21:24 time for seventh place. Sophomore Seth Hall finished the four-mile course with a time of 22:07, good for 11th best overall.The ULM cross country team returns to action Saturday, Sept. 22 when they host the ULM Warhawk Invitational In Monroe, La.
