NEW ORLEANS - Senior Aubrey Phillips has been named the Conference USA Cross Country Women's Athlete of the Week for the week of September 3-9, the league office announced Tuesday.
A native of Baton Rouge, Phillips led the Green Wave to victory at the Southern Miss Cross Country Invitational last week, finishing first in the 5K race with a time of 19:08.98. Phillips aided her teammates in defeating the 12 team field in their first full-length race of the 2007 cross country season.
For the second week in a row, the team captain claimed a spot among the top two finishers in a meet. Two weeks ago, Phillips placed second to freshman teammate Rebecca Coady at the two-mile Green Wave Invitational in New Orleans.
Phillips has finished among the top two runners in six of the last seven regular season cross country meets, dating back to the 2006 season.
Tulane will next be in action on Sept. 22 when it travels to Baton Rouge for the LSU Tiger Cross Country Festival.
