AUSTIN, Texas – Northwestern State senior All-American Justin Walker finished seventh in the 100 meter dash Saturday at the 87th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, one of eight top 10 finishes at Texas or the nearby Bobcat Invitational by NSU track and field competitors.
Walker, whose 2014 debut in the 100 came with a 10.29 in Friday's prelims to reach the nine-man final, couldn't improve on his time Saturday. Baylor freshman Travon Bromwell matched the 10.02 he ran in prelims to easily outpace the other eight finalists Saturday.
Most of Saturday's action for Northwestern took place down I-35 in San Marcos at the Texas State-hosted meet.
Por'sha Thomas was third (39-11 ½) and Taylor Walker sixth (38-8 ¾) in the women's triple jump. Rechelle Bessard took fourth in the shot put (45-10 ¾) and Keona Jackson was sixth (45-3 ½).
Kenya McDaniel was eighth with an 18-1 ½ long jump while Jaynisha Berry ran 10th among 40 competitors, clocking a 24.55 in the 200 meter dash at Texas State.
Scoring from Friday's final day of the hepathlon was finally published, with Lady Demon freshman Mawi Berkhadley finishing ninth with a 4,068 point total in her first-ever multi-event competition.
Also in Austin Saturday, NSU's Shakemia Johnson threw 151-5 for 11th place in the B-section of the women's discus.
Next weekend, Northwestern competes at Stephen F. Austin.
