LAFAYETTE – After earning his sixth first-place finish in six events during the season, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field standout Justin Victor was selected to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are scheduled for March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Victor, a senior from DeRidder, won his sixth event in the weight throw during the season when he recorded a school- and Sun Belt Conference Championship throw of 69 feet, 0.75 inches at the SBC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24 in Birmingham, Ala.
He opened the year with a school-record throw of 64-5.25 at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational and added wins at the A-State Invitational, the Samford Multi and Invitational and twice at a pair of meets hosted by McNeese State.
"Justin has done an outstanding job for us this year," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "He's set a school record in every event he's competed in during the indoor season and really is throwing well coming into the National Championship.
"We are excited for him to compete against the best in the NCAA and really like his chance to place well."
Victor and the Ragin' Cajuns will open the outdoor portion of the season on Friday when they compete in the Jaguar Opener in Mobile, Ala.
