C.E. Byrd's Juan Plaza is a busy man. Sunday night, he returned from Albuquerque, New Mexico where he led a contingent of some of the best track and field talent in Louisiana at the prestigious Great Southwest Classic. Monday morning he was up bright and early for the first summer workout with the C.E. Byrd Cross Country team.
Last week, Plaza was named the Times' All-City Coach of the Year. MileSplit Louisiana's Jerry Byrd sat down with Plaza on Monday night to cover the above topics and talk about some of the athletes on his team including, freshmen Hayla Demery (No. 2 freshmen in Louisiana in the 400 meters), Isabel Wooley (No. 5 freshmen in Louisiana in the 800 meters and No. 16 all-time), Sophomore Emmy Banker.
Towards the end of the conversation, Plaza talked about C.E. Byrd's winning 4x400 relay at the LHSAA State Outdoor Meet and the girls' 4x800 which made the podium at the state meet for the first time in school history.
