Hayward posts personal best 60m dash time at UH meet


HOUSTON – Northwestern State All-American sprinter Ravyn Hayward ran a personal best 6.73 time in the 60 meter dash Saturday, improving his NCAA provisional qualifying status for next month's NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, as NSU competed at the Houston Invitational meet.


Hayward shaved 0.01 off his Southland Conference-leading time by running the fastest in the preliminary heats. In the finals, he ran 6.76 but settled for fifth as Aaron Armstrong of Nike won in 6.66.


Competition continued Saturday evening, with the other top showing for Northwestern coming with a sixth-place finish from Shanae Steward with an 8.76 time in the women's 60 meter hurdles.

Tracey Rew gave the Lady Demons eighth in the shot put with a 44-1 1/2 toss. Mike Hill ran eighth for NSU in the men's 60 meter hurdles (8.15) while Shannon Foley was ninth in the women's 800 with a 2:19.12 clocking.
