Roy's Strong Efforts Highlights Privateers Performance in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – Freshman Darius Roy continues to impress in the indoor season as the New Orleans Privateers capped their final tune up for the Southland Championships at the LSU Twilight Invitational on Friday night.

Roy set an indoor school record in the 60-meter dash with his time of 6.81 seconds in the preliminaries. That positioned Roy at the top of all Section A qualifiers. Roy wound up finishing fourth in the finals of the event, but would earn some redemption later in the night.

In the 200-meter, Roy posted a 21.95 and finished first out of a group of ten runners in the event. It also marked the third time in New Orleans indoor track history that a runner turned in a time under 22 seconds. Roy's teammate Constant Pretorius finished third, running a 22.35.

"Darius continued to look impressive in the 60 and the 200 and it was nice to see Constant start to find his rhythm," said Privateers Head Coach Mike Erb.

On the women's side, there were some positives to take as well. Farydah Inoussa finished third in the women's long jump by setting a mark of 18'2". That mark was good enough for third on the night behind Nataliyah Friar of LSU and Tulane's Tamika Brazzel. Other solid results on the women's side included a personal best bySofia Johnsson (8.74) in the 60-meter hurdles en route to a sixth place finish. Fadeke Adeola finished fourth in the women's high jump.

"The women performed very well tonight.  Sofia had a personal best in the hurdles and Farydah put together a nice long jump series.  Fadeke showed some great improvement in the high jump as well," said Erb who also added about his team's overall standing, "We're beginning to sharpen up as we approach the Southland Championship next week."

The Southland Championships will be held over two days on Feb. 26 and 27 in Birmingham, Alabama.
