McNeese Cowboys finish 10th and Cowgirls 11th at SLC cross country championship

NACOGDOCHES, TX ? McNeese State finished 10th in the men\'s division and 11th in the women\'s race at the annual Southland Conference cross country championship meet on Friday.


The Cowboys scored 286 points in the men\'s division which was won by Lamar with 37 points. Other score had SFA with 50, Sam Houston State 87, UT Arlington 122, TA&M-Corpus Christi 122, Texas State 156, UT San Antonio 161, Southeastern Louisiana 230, Central Arkansas 234 and Northwestern State 293.


The Cowgirls tallied 335 points in the women\'s division which Lamar also won with 46 points. Second place went to SFA with 73, UT Arlington had 99, Texas State 106, UT San Antonio 139,TAM-Corpus Christi 143, Central Arkansas 166, Sam Houston State 170, Northwestern State 216, Southeastern Louisiana 233 and Nicholls State 336.


Leading the Cowboys in the men\'s 8K run was Phil Winfield with a 28:47 clocking for 54th place. Ryan Barrow finished 56th at 28:58, Matt Fontenot was 60th at 29:23, Matt Hazel ran 65th at 30:06 and Blake Miller was 66th with a 30:21 clocking.


Shadrack Songok of TAM-Corpus Christi won the individual crown with a 24:20 clocking.


In the women\'s 6K race the top Cowgirl finisher was Claire Linder who placed 66th at 27:15. Melanie Breaux was 67th at 27:19, Jessica Gonzales-Pons ran 71st at 27:53, Krystal Lux was 72nd at 28:25, Karen Quiceno was 75th at 28:43 and Barbara Caraway ran 80th at 31:32.
