Benton Middle School Results!

Benton Middle School picked up 37 points in the field events and never looked Tuesday evening at Tiger Stadium as the Tigers won the boys' division at the Benton Junior Meet. Benton's would wind up with 132 points, 59 points more than runner-up Red River.

In the field events, the Tigers picked up wins from Jaylon Holloway in the high jump (5-2), Ryder Dodson in the discus (120-6), and Maddox Tullos in the shot put (39-3.

On the track, Benton had three individual winners as well. Caden Austin won the 1600m (5:32.85), Sam Ivins won the 2400m (8:30.65), and Vincent Harrerra won the 400m (1:00.23).

For the Benton Middle School boys, it ended a series of four meets with teams from Desoto and Webster parishes. In those four meets, the Tigers won three. The Tigers will now begin a four meet series with Bossier Parish Schools.

"We are happy to have so many athletes that have a desire to train and work hard to go out and compete while also encouraging each other in the process," Benton head coach Jared Stowell said. "It's a fun group to coach."

In the girls' division, it was a much closer race. North DeSoto Middle School came away with the win, scoring 113 points, defeating parish rival Mansfield Middle School by 12 points.

The Lady Griffins were led by Jade Temple, who won the 100m (13.00) and the 200m (27.42). The only other individual winner was Oriana Washington, who won the high jump with an effort of 4-4.

While the Lady Griffins did not come away with a win in the relays, they did finish second in all three to score a combined 24 points.

"My girls have worked hard all season," North Desoto girls head coach Hannah Kempf said. "They have gone against some really tough competition. We had a ton of girls to step out of their comfort zones, which benefitted us greatly in our last meet of the season. They came into it with the right mindset and it paid off."

Out of North DeSoto's five meets this season, Tuesday night's win was the fourth of the season for the Lady Griffins. They also won meets at Logansport and Mansfield as well as their own meet. The only meet the Lady Griffins didn't win was the Lakeside meet, where they finished second with a younger group of girls.
