Westgate's Mekhi Boutte Runs 21.80 at Carl Lewis!

Westgate head coach Philip Guidry was excited to see what his star sprinter could do in his favorite race and senior Mekhi Boutte did not disappoint in the prelims of the Carl Lewis Invitational at the University of Houston Friday night, running the fastest time (21.80) in the preliminary heats of the 200m.

Boutte had the public address announcer excited before he even reached the halfway mark.

"Oh, my!," Clyde Duncan Jr., the iconic voice of Texas track and field, could be heard over the public address as Boutte entered the final turn and with just over 100m to go in the race.

"It's one of the fastest times this evening."

It was, in fact, THE fastest time turned in the meet's 36 preliminary heats in the 200m. Kameron Williams had the second fastest time with a 21.87.

Boutte's time is also one of the fastest time in the nation this season. It is currently ranked No. 7 in the US.

Boutte will be one of 12 sprinters in the three-section final on Saturday.

The Westgate Tiger will have a busy day on Saturday as he is scheduled for the 60m, 4x200m, and the finals of the 200.

Last week, Boutte opened up his season with an impressive second place performance in the LSU High School Classic's 60m dash running  a 6.95.
