State Meet Preview: Class B and C

There has not been much action from Class C this cross country season, but with the teams that have competed, there looks to be a division between two teams for the title.

The only schools that have run a full team this season, on the girls' side, have been Claiborne Christian and Calvin

Claiborne Christian is also home to the fastest individual in Class C, Ella Osborne. She holds the best time for this division by just a second with a time of 22:02. She ran this time in late September at the Wallace Martin Cedar Creek Invitational. Osborne is the top returning individual from the 2020 State Meet and will most likely be looking to claim her first state title after finishing behind her teammate, Annisten Dunn, last year.

Right behind Osborne by one second is Peyton Moschell of First Baptist Christian. Unlike Osborne, Moschell claimed her top time less than two weeks ago at the STA Bruce O'Krepki Invitational. In terms of recent fitness, Moschell looks to be the individual favorite. This is her first cross country season, but it would not be her first state title if she wins; she won the 2021 3200m for Class C.

Other notable competitors for this weekend come from Harrisonburg. A set of twins, Elizabeth Borne and Julia Borne. The Borne sisters claimed the next top two times entering into the state meet with Elizabeth running 23:11 and Julia following at 23:56. Do not count these two out of the running though because they have both ran 22-minutes for 3 miles last season. Both of these girls finished within the top 10 last year with Julia in 6th and Elizabeth in 8th.
