TRACK AND FIELD: Eight other SLC teams in field of Bayou City Championships

HOUSTON – Northwestern State competitors get a chance to compete at the site of the upcoming Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships when they take part in Saturday’s Bayou City Championships at the Bill Yeoman Field House on the University of Houston campus.

It’s the final regular-season competition for NSU, which is among more than two dozen teams participating in the daylong meet that begins with field event competition at 8 and running at 12:30.

Among the other teams entered are Southland Conference members McNeese State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas-Arlington, Southeastern Louisiana, Nicholls State and Texas-San Antonio, along with in-state rivals Southern and Louisiana-Lafayette.

Last week at LSU in the Bayou Bengal Invitational, sophomore Trecey Rew provided the top performance for Northwestern with her winning 47-9 throw in the shot put.

NSU competitors posted seven fourth-place finishes in their events: Jamie Emery in the men’s 200 meter dash (22.45) and the triple jump (48-2 ¾), Jeremy Thomas in the men’s 400 (50.95), Michael Hill in the men’s 60 meter hurdles (8.27), Corey Jones in the men’s shot put (52-10 ¾), Brittany Culotta in the women’s 800 (2:27.46) and Andrea Warren in the women’s long jump (18-7 ¼),

Jessica Tuck was fifth in the women’s long jump (17-10 ¾) while Charles Green ran fifth in the men’s 200 (22.53). The Lady Demon 4x400 relay team took sixth in 4:01.99, and Chris Oyeku ran sixth in the men’s 60 meter hurdles (8.36).
