Privateers Start Season off Strong at New Orleans Relays

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The New Orleans men's and women's cross country teams both got off to strong starts on the 2015 season as the Privateers dominated at the New Orleans Relays on Tuesday afternoon.

The men's team swept the podium as Jared Robertson and Edmund Pine combined for a time of 21:47.9 to take first place followed by Clayton O'Callaghan and Frederico Machado in second place with a time of 22:25.1 and Michael Batson and Mark Golay in third place at 22:56.3.

The trio of Privateer teams placed the men in first overall followed by Southeastern in the four-team competition on Lakeshore Drive.

"It's always great to start the season off at home like this," said New Orleans head coach Benjamin Dalton. "The men's side had a tremendous race led by Jared and Edmund, who really cleared the way for our one-two-three finish. For the women, Callie (Willcox) and Emily (Martinez) really stepped it up for the second place outing. It was a good day overall and I'm excited about our direction this season."

On the women's side it was Emily Martinez and Callie Willcox who placed second for New Orleans as the duo combined for a time of 26:35.6, helping lead the Privateers to a third place women's finish.

The meet was the lone home competition for the team this season, however the Privateers will remain in town for their next date on Sept. 12 at the Loyola New Orleans Wolfpack Invitational.
