Five firsts for NSU competitors in Easter weekend meet at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Shanae Steward and Quintin Snowden were two of five first-place finishers from Northwestern State in the Stephen F. Austin Dogwood Invitational track and field meet wrapping up Friday evening.


Snowden posted a season-best 48-2 1/2 to win the men\'s triple jump by nearly a foot. Steward ran 14.10 to cruise to victory in the women\'s 100 meter hurdles.


Other NSU winners were Rachel Hoffman with a 12.43 in the women\'s 100 meter dash, Randy Fauntleroy in the men\'s javelin (206-8) and Heather Neill in the women\'s javelin (121-1). Many of NSU\'s top performers either did not compete or took part in different events on Easter weekend after competing last weekend at the Texas Relays.


Fautleroy led a 1-2-3 finish by the Demons in the men\'s javelin, with Samuel Norton second at 201-4 and Joe Smith third at 181-0.


Haley Blount\'s 11-5 3/4 mark in the women\'s pole vault was a season-best and gave NSU one of its six second-place finishes. Cassandra Krell matched her season-best 5-7 clearance in the women\'s high jump for second, while Tameshia Miller leaped 18-10 for second in the women\'s long jump and was also runner up in the 100 at 12.51. Ravyn Hayward took second in the men\'s 200 with a 21.78 time.


Ruth Kinyanjui ran third with a 5:02.54 time in the women\'s 1500, with NSU\'s Jessica Tuck third in the women\'s long jump at 18-4 1/4. Corey Jones was third in the men\'s discus with a 164-7 throw. Margeaux Fisher ran third in the women\'s 800 in 2:19.02.
