Loyola Track Team Achieves Many New Personal Bests at Southeastern Inv.

 

HAMMOND, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s track teams competed in the first ever Southeastern Lion Invitational Friday at Southeastern Louisiana University’s new track complex.

Junior standout Sarah Tortorich highlighted the day by setting a new Loyola record in the 400m dash with a time of 57.76. Tortorich bested her record of 57.85 from a week ago and has improved her 400m time in every meet this season.

Raquel Derganz-Baker set new personal bests in the 200m and 400m events. The freshman recorded times of 27.77 and 1:03.02 respectively. Elysia Pendezec also set a new personal best time but in the 800m race, finishing at 2:47.09.

Furthermore, Denise Powell registered personal bests in the 800m and 1500m races, while also coming within a second of tying the Loyola records in both. Powell clocked in at 2:30.17 and 5:04.56 respectively.

On the men’s side, Tucker Scott and William Maye recorded their best times of the season in the 400m race. Scott posted a time of 55.69, while Maye finished at 56.70.

Dylan DiMartino and Galen Westerfield improved on their 1500m times and also set new personal bests. DiMartino recorded a time of 4:42.25 and Westerfied finished at 4:46.19.

Last but not least, Carlos Flores capped off the day of setting personal bests with a distance of 10.15m in the shot put and 27.92m in the discus.
