Griffin blazes to 400 win in school-record time at LSU

BATON ROUGE – Quiana Griffin broke a 14-year-old Northwestern State school record Saturday as she won the 400 meter dash at LSU's Alumni Gold track and field meet.
 
Griffin finished first in 54.96, edging LSU's Montene' Speight (55.01). The sophomore's time shaved one-hundredth off the former school mark of 54.97 by Shekarah Kyles in 1998.
 
NSU's Trey Hatton ran third in the 100 meter dash with a 10.61 time, a 2012 best for him. NSU's Constance Seibles was third in the women's 200 (24.69, also a season's best), while Lady Demon freshman Ashley Aldredge took third in the javelin with a 159-11 throw. She was the top collegiate finisher.
 
Lawana Perkins ran 2:15.13 for fourth in the women's 800. She joined Griffin, Seibles and Consuela Lindsay on the fourth-place 4x400 meter relay time with a season-best 3:42.86, trailing Canada, LSU and Texas A&M.
 
The Demons also came in fourth in the 4x400 with a season-best 3:11.43 from D.J. BeyetteKendal TaylorTravis Plumb and Keenan Jackson.
 
Aly Fontenot ran fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase, clocking 11:51.49. Sarah Emory was fourth in the 5000 (17:59.66). The Demons' Nathanial McReynolds also took fourth in the men's 3000 steeplechase, clocking 9:58.50, a personal best for him.
 
Consuela Lindsay threatened her school record in the 400 meter hurdles with a fifth-place 1:00.82.  Beyette posted a season-best 1:52.98 for fifth in the men's 800. Janae Allenfinished fifth in the women's discus (142-3).
 
Sarah Jones lept 39-1, equaling her season's best, for fifth in the women's triple jump.
 
The Demons' foursome of Hatton, Karllis Perry, Taylor and  Jackson took sixth in the 4x100 meter relay with a 41.01 time.
 
Some NSU athletes will head to Des Moines, Iowa, next week for the Drake Relays while others will train for the May 11-13 Southland Conference Championships.
