Four first place finishes for NSU at McNeese meet

LAKE CHARLES – First place finishes by Keyera Thomas, Jordan Clark, Keenan Jackson and Lawana Perkins led the Northwestern State indoor track and field teams at the Jeff Davis Bank McNeese Indoor II on Friday.
 
Thomas won the women’s high jump with a clearing of 5-02.25.  Perkins took home the women’s 800 meter gold with a time of 2:16.52.  Meanwhile on the men’s side, Jackson won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.62 while Clark tied for the title in the high jump at 6-02.75.
 
The Lady Demons got four other top three places.  Jerrica Tillery finished second in the triple jump at 38-04 while Sarah Jones had a leap of 18-7.25 for a second place finish in the long jump.  Keona Jackson placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 55-09.25 and Chantel Bratton placed third in the shot put at 44-11.75.
 
The men got four top three finishes as well.  Emmanuel Williams placed second in the triple jump at 44-11.75 and D.J. Beyette was second in the 600 meters (1:22.34) while teammate Travis Plumb ranked third with a 1:23.01 time.  And the men’s 4x400 meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:24.60.
 
Other top five finishes had Breshon Booker placing fourth in the men’s long jump (22-06.25), Sherif Omotunwashe fourth in the triple jump (44-08) and Brent Giddens placing fourth in the 55 meter hurdles at 7.91.
 
For the women, Karensa Ellis had a fifth place finish in the 1-mile run (5:18.13) and also finished seventh in the 3000 meters at 10:54.32.
 
The teams will be back in action next Saturday when they take part in the Tyson Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas.
