NSU fares well at Centenary Invitational

SHREVEPORT – Northwestern State’s Lawana Perkins paced the Lady Demons to an overall second place finish at the Centenary Invitational here Saturday after the senior from Baytown, Texas ran a 23:09.9 to finish fourth overall.
 
The Lady Demons totaled 54 points and placed behind only Sam Houston State (23 points) in the nine-team field.
 
Ali Fontenot ran a 24:00.2 for a sixth place finish while Aly Coughlin finished 11th overall with a time of 24:18.4.
 
Sam Houston finished 1-2-3 in the event behind the running of Alyssa Dooley (22:22.2), Victoria Gemeny (23:00.5), and Sara Collazos (23:03.9).
 
Grambling followed the Lady Demons in the team standings with a team score of 54.  After that was UT-Tyler (107), University of Dallas (132), Centenary (177), East Texas Baptist (178), Louisiana College (222), and Wiley College (255).
 
On the men’s side, the Demons finished sixth in the overall team standings with a score of 127 in the 13-team field.
 
Mark Dotson was the top finisher for NSU after he placed 10th overall with a time of 26:43.7.  Alex Hebert was next in 25th place at 28:11.3 and Albert Gladney at 26th with a time of 28:12.9.
 
Sam Houston State won the men’s team title with a score of 36 points followed by Houston Baptist at 65, Grambling 69, Lon Morris College 116, UT-Tyler 127, NSU 127, East Texas Baptist 206, Le Tourneau 217, Centenary 232, University of Dallas, 249, Wiley College 271, Louisiana College 319, and Paul Quinn College with no team score.
 
Both teams will be back in action on Friday when NSU hosts the Demon Invitational at 3 p.m. at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.
