McNeese's Ross runs second at SFA's pre-conference meet

 

 

NACOGDOCHES, TX – Fionnuala Ross was the lead runner for McNeese State at the Stephen F. Austin pre-conference cross country meet Monday.

            The Cowgirl junior finished second in the women's division with a 22:11.81 clocking over the 6K distance.

            Leading the Cowboys was Alex Bruce-Littlewood with a seventh place finish and a 26:23.20 effort in the 8K.

            As a team the Cowgirls finished second with 67 points while the Cowboys were fourth in the men's division with 88 points.  Both team titles went to UTSA with 47 points in the women's division and 55 in the men's bracket.

  

          “We're continuing to improve each week and that's good,” said McNeese head coach Brendon Gilroy.

            The meet was run over the Piney Woods Country Club golf course and over the same route on which the Southland Conference meet will be held in late October.

            The Cowgirls had two runners among the top five finishes in the women's division as Amy Talbot placed  fourth with a 22:37.63 effort.

            Other finishes for the Cowgirls had Lauren Cooper placing 14th at 24:10.08, Cori Storms running 22nd at 24:39.52, Allison Crawford finishing 27th at 24:59.79, Taylor DeLaRose running 25:31.23 for 34th place and Kaitlyn Jeter going 26:09.08 for 39th.

            Bruce-Littlewood was the only Cowboy in the top 10 but placing l2th was Lewi Manirumva and Andy Evans finished 16th.  Manirumva ran 26:46.9 and Evans posted a 276:01.24 clocking.

            Also for the Cowboys, Alex Kiptoo finished 25th at 27:16.72, Brock Moreaux ran 45th at 28:48.58 and Drew Kogut placed 57th at 30:04.93.

            Next up for McNeese will be the team's own Cowboy Stampede Saturday morning at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex on Lake Street extension.
