The McNeese men and women's cross country team opened up the season Friday with wins in the overall team category.
The McNeese Cross Country Relay is a 6k relay comprised of two person teams and was held at Enos Derbonne recreation complex.
On the men's side, the team of Alex Evans and Manirumva finished 2nd with a time of 17:13 and only 15 seconds behind them, McNeese had Alex Bruc-Littlewood and Alex Kiptoo a cross the finish line to take third.
Behind them in fourth place with a time of 18:14 was Brock Moreaux and Drew Kogut.
The fastest split of the meet was run by Alex Bruc-Littewood of McNeese, he finished the first leg of the relay in 8:21.
McNeese's women's relay teams took second, third and fifth place to secure their team victory.
Finishing second place was the tandem of Lauren Cooper and Fionnuala with a 20:27 time.
It took Amy Talbot and Jillian Biagin only 11 seconds longer to finish the race, finishing in third place.
Fifth place went to Cori Storms and Angelina Covington with a time of 18:14.
Also running for the Cowgirls were Taylor De La Rosa and Allison Crawford with a 21:42 time and Kaitlyn Jeter and Sarah Van Horn with a time of 22:28
Head Coach Brendon Gilroy was very pleased with the results, “we have a lot of new faces on the team this year and we wanted to get the first one under our belt to see where we were strong and what we needed to work on.”
The teams will next travel to Houston on September 17 to participate in the Rice Invitational.
