CALVARY'S JACKSON BURNEY (4) ON HIS WAY TO A SEASON OPENING WIN IN THE 800m!
Here are the finalists for MileSplit LA Boys' Performer Of The Week. Congratulations to all of the finalists. The winner will advance to the ballot for MileSplit LA Boys' Indoor Athlete Of the Year at the end of February. This poll will close on Saturday at 9pm.
MAX JACKETTI (MANDEVILLE)-- Had a 10 second PR in the 3200m with a time of 9:38. That was good enough to make the podium and puts the senior Skipper, who will be headed to Mississippi College next year, within striking distance of the school record.
JACKSON JARRETT (DAVID THIBODAUX STEM)--Had an outstanding showing in the 3200m picking up his first win of 2025. His 9:29 was only a few seconds off the meet record in the event.
PHILLIP WRIGHT III (DESTREHAN)--Opened his final season of track and field with a bang. He won the 60m with a time of 6.92 before winning the 400m and becoming the first high school sprinter this year to break the 50 second barrier.
JACKSON BURNEY (CALVARY)--The senior from Calvary, who signed with LSU during the early signing period, opened his senior season with a win in the 800m. He was won of six runners in the race to break 2:00.
BRANDT BLANCHARD (JESUIT)-- Saved his very best for last in the boys 1600m where he ran the last 200m in 28 seconds to win the 1600m with a time of 4:26.
ZION SMITH (AIRLINE)-- Won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.13. It's a personal record for Smith and the No. 2 time in Louisiana this year. Smith received the meet's Track Most Outstanding Performer Award.
TAYVEN CARTER (DELHI CHARTER)--The sophomore won the long jump with a 21-7.5. That mark is No. 5 in Louisiana. Nationally, it is tied for No. 19 in the nation among all sophomores.
JACOB MILLER (RUSTON)--Won the triple jump with a best of 42-3.75. That ranks No. 5 in Louisiana. Miller also finished fifth in the long jump with a best of 20-8.75.
