BATON ROUGE, La. - It was a career-day for freshman sprinter Tiffany George on Saturday, April 23 as she ran the third fastest time in school history at the 100-meter distance to highlight the Tulane track and field programs stay at the LSU Alumni Gold meet. Eight other student-athletes posted season-best times at the meet, with Raquelle Collins moving into the top-ten at Tulane in the long jump.
George was the highlight of the meet, as the rookie ran the third fastest 100-meter dash in school history against a solid field of collegiate and unattached athletes. In the first heat of the event, George posted a time of 11.47-seconds, finishing just ahead of former Green Wave standout Olivia Kizzee. The time was good enough for a sixth place finish among the collegiate competitors and posted the team's best time of the year in the event.
Another freshman had a solid showing for the Olive and Blue on the day, with Hilary Woods posting a seventh place finish in the 400-meter dash. It was the first open 400-meter race that Woods has competed in and she posted the team's third fastest time of the season by crossing the finish line at 58.73-seconds.
In the long jump, Collins posted a season and career-best performance in her fourth attempt in the event, jumping 5.78-meters. The junior set her previous career-best at the LSU Relays earlier this season and in the same pit which that mark was measures, she posted the team's top leap of the season. The distance also ranks seventh in school history, just ahead of Jillian Green's 5.86-meter jump in 2004.
The field events and 4x100-meter relay highlighted the afternoon for the men's squad, with Julius Warmsleysetting a new career-best in the discus and the 4x100-meter relay team posting the team's second fastest time of the season.
