Lady Demons set 4x400 school record at LSU

BATON ROUGE -- Northwestern State All-American Trecey Rew's dominating discus win Saturday at the LSU Tiger Relays, her second victory in as many days in the meet, was overshadowed when the Lady Demons' 4x400 meter relay team broke a 13-year-old school record in the meet's final event.

Rew didn't threaten her school record of 179-0 set while winning the NCAA East Region championship last May, but her 174-8 mark Saturday was more than 13 feet past the second-place throw by LSU's Samia Stokes. Friday night, Rew won the shot put, her specialty, in her 2011 outdoor debut in that event.

The foursome of freshman Quiana Griffin, senior Andrea Warren, junior Lawana Perkins and freshman Consuela Lindsy carved nearly a full second off the 3:41.67 school record set in 1998. They clocked 3:40.71 while finishing second to LSU (3:35.90) in the 4x400 relay.

The Demons' 4x200 relay also finished second to LSU, posting a 1:23.88 time from Adam Smith, Justin Walker, Kendal Taylor and Mike Green as LSU won in 1:20.98.

Nathanial McReynolds took third for NSU in the 3000 meter steeplechase with his 10:55.29 mark. The Demons' 4x400 relay quartet, Michael Batts, Taylor, Jarrod Charles and Green, took fourth with a season-best 3:11.60.

Janae Allen gave the Lady Demons a fifth place in the discus with her 138-6 throw. Wayne Douglas was fifth for NSU in the triple jump (48-11 1/2).

Karensa Ellis ran a personal record 4:42.69 in the women's 1500, finishing eighth.

NSU will compete next Saturday at the Bobby Lane Invitational hosted by Texas-Arlington, go to the Texas Relays the following week, and hosts the NSU Invitational April 16.
