ADEN TAKES FIRST IN ULM-PINE HILLS TWILIGHT CROSS COUNTRY MEET

MONROE, La. - Louisiana Monroe\'s Maya Aden, the defending champion at last season\'s Southland Conference men\'s cross country championship, began the 2005 season in winning form by finishing first at the ULM - Pine Hills Twilight Cross Country Meet, held at Pine Hills Country Club near Monroe.

Aden covered the course in 21:04, edging Louisiana Tech\'s Tom Marshall by one second and Kinsey Dinnel by four.

\"Maya was pretty much in control the whole way,\" said ULM men\'s and women\'s cross country head coach Bruce Kritzler. \"He\'s probably a little behind of where he was last year at this time, but he\'s still got plenty of time to get in top form.\"

Northwestern State University\'s Margeaux Fisher finished first in the women\'s race, besting Louisiana Monroe\'s Amanda Bartlett by five seconds.

The meet was conducted under dual scoring standards where the competition is by team head-to-head results. On the men\'s side, ULM went 3-1, defeating Northwestern State, Centenary College and Louisiana Collge while losing to Louisiana Tech. On the women\'s side, ULM went 2-1, defeating Centenary and Louisiana College while losing to Northwestern State.

\"It was a real good first meet,\" said Kritzler. \"The women were greatly improved over last year and several were running their first race.\"
