CARTER EARNS ALL-AMERICA HONORS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Southeastern's Chris Carter earned All-America honors in the javelin after he finished sixth overall Friday at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.

Carter, who missed the entire 2003-04 season with Tommy John surgery, posted a mark of 229 feet, 7 inches in becoming the school's fifth track All-American since 1980. The junior from Walker joined former Southeastern athletes David Bennett (1994), Felisa Howard (1995), David Ducre (1996) and Christine Amertil (2000) as Division I All-Americans.

Carter, who qualified in Wednesday's preliminaries with a throw of 221-3, was edged out by .02 meters for fifth-place by Bobby Smith of Monmouth. Boise State's Gabriel Wallin won the event with a throw of 258-5 with Trevor Snyder of Georgia finishing second (249-5), Dartmouth's Sean Furey third (242-3) and Eric Brown of Arkansas was fourth (232-2).
