LSU Track & Field Records 12 Regional Qualifying Marks at Bulldog Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- LSU\'s track and field team concluded a successful day of competition at the W.O. Spencer Stadium Saturday recording 12 NCAA Regional qualifying marks and 12 individual event wins at Mississippi State\'s Bulldog Invitational.

All-American Tina Harris led the way for the Lady Tigers, recording regional qualifying marks in both the long jump and the triple jump. Making her outdoor debut in the events, the sophomore from Ruston, La., won the long jump with a distance of 20-11 1/4 and earned runner-up honors in the triple jump with a mark of 41-0 1/4.

Senior Katie McKeever was also solid in the field for the Lady Tigers, winning her first shot put title of the outdoor campaign with a near personal record mark of 51-7 3/4.

Fellow senior Matt Vincent matched McKeever\'s effort on the men\'s side, winning his second straight shot put title with a regional qualifying toss of 55-3 1/2. Vincent added a win in the discus, taking first with a season-best throw of 167-6.

LSU also swept the javelin throw as junior Pat Perrien claimed the men\'s title with a distance of 189-9 and freshman Amanda Harmata secured the women\'s win with a toss of 131-2.

On the track, freshmen sprinters Brooklyn Morris and Deonna Lawrence ran to regional qualifying marks in the 200 meters as Morris crossed the line in 23.66 and Lawrence followed in 23.88.

Sophomore Tanya Osbourne reached the regional standard in the 800 meters. She clocked 2:09.26 in securing the victory.

Also recording a first-place finish for the Lady Tigers was senior Ruth Nanyinza in the 1,500 meters (4:41.68).

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers won the 4x400-meter relays in regional qualifying time. The men finished first in 3:08.18, while the women were victorious in 3:40.65.

Individually qualifying for the regional championships on the men\'s side were freshman Ryan Fontenot and sophomore Marvin Stevenson. Fontenot won the first hurdle title of collegiate career taking home top honors in the 110 hurdles with a season-best time of 14.13. Stevenson posted a personal best of 20.98 in the 200 meters to finish fourth overall.

In addition, freshman Michael Hendry won the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 4:04.66.

The LSU track and field team will return to action next week when it travels to Austin, Texas for the 78th annual Texas Relays.
