AIRLINE'S JAYDEN WILLIAMS GETS READY AT THE START OF THE REGION 1-5A 1600m IN 2024
Recruiting is heating up in Louisiana as seniors are making decisions on where they will head this fall to begin the next chapter of their track and field journey. Two of Louisiana's best will be staying in the state. Airline's Jayden Williams signed with LSU in front of family and friends last week in the school's auditorium. Mandeville's Brayden Berglund has decided to continue his career with the University of Louisiana--Lafayette.
Last April, Williams ran a 1:51.77 at the Region 1-5A Championship in Natchitoches. That time ranks No. 7 all-time in Louisiana.
"I chose LSU because it felt like home from the moment I stepped on campus," Williams said. "The coaching staff believes in my potential not only as a runner, but as a person as well, and that meant a lot to me."
Williams also mentioned LSU's culture and tradition for developing some of the best athletes in the country as reasons for making the decision.
"I wanted to be a part of that environment where I can keep growing and competing at the highest level."
So what is Williams looking forward to the most about being an LSU Tiger?
"I'm looking forward to being pushed every day by great teammates and coaches while representing LSU at the next level," Williams said. "I'm excited to keep developing as a versatile athlete and chase big goals, and contribute to something bigger than myself while always putting God first."
Mandeville's Brayden Berglund signed with the University of Louisiana a couple of weeks ago and announced his decision in an Instagram post.
Berglund ranks No. 30 all-time in Louisiana with a 1:53.53 last year at the FSU Relays. He is coming off an indoor season which saw him run a 4:19 at the LSU Indoor Classic. The time ranks No. 7 all-time in Louisiana.
"I'm excited to grow both academically and physically alongside some of the fastest guys I've raced from around the state and see how far we can push ourselves together as a team," Berglund said.
Berglund said that Lafayette was the perfect distance from his home in Mandeville.
"It's not too close to home, and it's not too far away either," Berglund said.
Berglund said he is looking forward to living in the dorms and training with his ULL teammates.
