HATHAWAY'S KAITLYN SAWYER (PINK TOP) COMPETES AT LAST WEEKEND'S RUNNINGLANE CHAMPIONSHIPS
While most athletes hung up the spikes after the LHSAA Class B State Outdoor Track & Field Championships earlier this month, Hathaway's Kaitlyn Sawyer extended her season with an appearance in last weekend's RunningLane Championships in Huntsville, AL.
Before we get to her times at RunningLane, let's take a quick look back at state where she pulled the distance triple with wins in the 800m (2:21.60), 1600m (5:14.46), and the 3200m (12:00.75). All but the 3200m were personal records and she only missed that PR by one second.
You would think with that type of performance that Hathaway would be in the picture for a team title, but the team finished with 31 points (30 coming from Sawyer) and finished eighth overall.

Stepping up in class in Huntsville, Sawyer proved that she is ready to run with not only the best in Louisiana-but the best in the nation. She went wire-to-wire in the 800m winning her heat with a time of 2:17.47.
She was equally impressive in the 1600m, where she finished fourth with a time of 5:08.41.
Sawyer didn't just beat her personal record in those two races, she obliterated them. The 800m was a four second improvement. The 1600m time was a six second improvement.
Those who compete at a high level always want to run fast when it counts-at the end of the season, and Sawyer has done just that to close out her junior campaign. It tells us-and her-a couple of things. First, that her training is definitely working! The second thing is that the momentum she has gained during the last month of the season should propel her into a spectacular senior season at Hathaway starting with the 2025 cross country, which is only three months away.
