LHSAA STATE OUTDOOR MEET PREVIEW: Boys' Sprints

HOLY CROSS JOSH BROWN COMES THROUGH THE LINE AT THE 2024 STATE OUTDOOR MEET 200m

2025 La. Boys 100m Rankings!

In class 1A, the conversation begins with Kentwood's Jermaine Brown. Brown is the defending runner-up in the 100m (10.68) and the defending 200m state champion in the 200m (21.53). While Brown is undefeated in the 100m in 2025, he has had two meets where he did not break 11.00.

All three sprinters in Region 1-1A broke the 11.00 barrier in the 100m. Jonesboro Hodge's Christian McGuire was the champion with a time of 10.55. Other sprinters to watch include St. Frederick's William Patrick (10.78) and Ringgold's Ladaunte McCoy (10.89).

In 2A, three of the top four sprinters in the state are from Region 1. Delhi Charter's Keidron Thomas (10.65) came out on top at regionals with Winnfield 's Detavious Williams and Calvary's Kolby Thomas also finishing on the podium.

If the winner does not come from Region 1, then look to Region 2-2A where Lafayette Christian Academy's Braylon Walker (10.66) has the best chance to strike gold.

In 3A, the winner will probably come out of Region 2 which has three of the five best sprinters in the state. Leading the way at regionals was Lake Charles College Prep's Ayden Carter (10.62), but Abbeville's Braylon Moore (10.65) and Port Allen's Brennan Gibson (10.70) were not far behind.

The No. 1 ranked sprinter in 3A is Bunkie' Kyle Johnson (10.51), who ran his personal record at the district meet. Johnson won the Region 1-3A Championship with a time of 10.68.

Vandebilt Catholic's Jaylon Coleman finished on the podium at the LHSAA State Outdoor Track & Field Championships as a sophomore finishing third with a time of 10.75. After failing to punch his ticket in 2024, Coleman will return to Bernie Moore Saturday after winning the Region 3-4A Championship with a 10.86.

Coleman's competition will more than likely come from Brusly junior Patrick Gales, who ran away from the competition at the Region 2-4A Championships with a time of 10.83.

The only other sprinter to break 11.00 in 4A is Grant junior Amaud Sykes, who won the Region 1-4A Championships with a time of 10.99.

Holy Cross'  Josh Brown certainly made his mark at the 2024 LHSAA State Outdoor Track & Field Championships winning both the 100m (10.35w) and the 200m (21.00). After his Region 3-5A sprint double (10.64/21.11) on Wednesday, it looked like all systems are for Brown to impress the Bernie Moore Stadium crowd again.

If Brown does not bring his "A" game, his main competition may come from Destrehan's Phillip Wright III, who qualified in both the 100m (10.72) and the 200m (21.12).

If future stars are what you are looking for, look no further than Brother Martin sophomore Easton Royal, who finished as the runner-up to Brown at the Region 3-5A Championships in the 100m with a time of 10.69.

In Class B, Simsboro's Jalen Outley is the clear favorite. If times hold up from regional action, Outley's competition will come from two juniors he faced at the regional meet-- Castor's Antwon Bolyer (11.03) and Quitman's Brayden Smith (11.32).
