Philip Aagaard named C-USA Athlete of the Week.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University junior Philip Aagaard was named the Conference USA Men\'s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 3. It is the third time in his career that he has captured the honor from the league.

Aagaard led five Green Wave men in the top 11 finishers as Tulane captured the title at the UNO Invitational on Saturday morning at Levee Oaks Park. The junior also won the title at the 2001 UNO Invitational. Aagaard covered the three-mile course in 15:26.46 to lead the three-team field. He has been Tulane\'s top finisher in all four races this year.

\"Philip ran that race with a lot of intensity and he was very aggressive,\" Tulane coach Heather Van Norman said. \"Everything we are doing is preparation for the conference championship.\"

Aagaard is the second Green Wave cross country runner to win the honor this year as freshman Rachel Bryan also was recognized by the league with the Women\'s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor after the first weekend of the season.

Tulane will be back in action on Monday with both the men\'s and women\'s teams competing at the Auburn Invitational.
