"I'm really proud of our guys and girls," Benton head coach Clint Barnes said. "It was a really good meet with good competition."
Benton scored 109 points in the boys division, 16 points more than runner-up Airline. On the girls side, the Lady Tigers scored 90.5, 17.5 more than runner-up Captain Shreve.
Austin also scored points in the 100m (10.81) with a fourth-place finish and the 400m (50.84) where he finished third.
Things started off on a positive note for the Tigers when the boys' 4x800m team won and broke the school record in the event with a time of 8:24. Members of the relay team include Brody Hutchison, Zachary Taylor, Zach Wroten, and Ty Wroten.
Hutchison (2:03.32) came back later in the meet and won the 800m.
The two best hurdlers in Louisiana battled for the second week in row. Mansfield's Jaden Youngblood came away with wins in both the 110m and 300m hurdles edging out Airline's Zion Smith, who upset Youngblood on his home turf in the 110m hurdles at last Week's Wolverine Relays.
Youngblood's time in the 110m hurdles was 13.84. In the 300m hurdles, Youngblood had a time of 38.96. He is the only hurdler to run sub 14.0 in the 110m hurdles and sub 39 in the 300m hurdles.
The individual leader in points in the boys division was North DeSoto's Javonte Taylor, who scored 29 points. Captain Shreve's Leah Bryant was the scoring leader in the girls division.
Taylor won the triple jump (45-7.5) and high jump (6-8). He tied for first in the long jump (21-4) with Haughton's Kyron Turner. In the high jump, Taylor took a stab 6-10 which would have been a new school record, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Bryant won the 100m hurdles (15.14) and thought that she was going to win the 300m hurdles (46.12) before Daux passed her at the tail end of the race. Bryant (5-0) also finished second to Airline's Shelby Ledet in the high jump (5-2) and ran a leg on Shreve's fourth-place 4x400m relay team.
