Jaden Youngblood, Kiristen Mcgirt Win MileSplit LA POTW!

Congratulations to Mansfield's Jaden Youngblood and East Ascension's Kiristen Mcgirt . They are this week's MileSplit LA Performer Of The Week

Youngblood, who made history during his freshman year by winning the school's first individual state indoor state championship, won the boys' poll with 5,507 votes. Jesuit sophomore David Quintana was the runner-up with 1,236 votes.

Mcgirt won the girls poll with 1,307 votes. West Feliciana's Tristen Harris was the runner-up with 414 votes.

At the LSU Indoor Classic, Youngblood finished as the runner-up in the 60m hurdles with a personal record time of 8.13. It was a great opener for Youngblood, who battled with injuries during his junior campaign.

Mcgirt opened with an incredible throw of 49-7.5. That was 16 feet further than the closest competitor. The throw was also seven feet further than her indoor personal record of 42-8.25 last year.

Youngblood and Mcgirt will advance to the MileSplit LA Indoor Athlete Of The Year at the end of February.

Thanks to everyone in the track and field community for voting. Look for the Week No. 2 ballot tomorrow. Also, please know that you can nominate an athlete for our Performer Of The Week poll by emailing Jerry Byrd at milesplitlaeditor@gmail.com. Nominations are due every Sunday by 7pm.
