Last night, MileSplit LA editor Jerry Byrd caught up with Donavon Banks, who moved into the No. 7 ranking in the world in the javelin at last week's Throws Festival in Tucson, Arizona with a throw of 271-11.

Banks graduated from Captain Shreve High School with only one offer--a partial scholarship to McNeese State University. He made the most of his time in Lake Charles, graduating with a degree in Business Administration while earning All-American honors and setting the school record with a throw of 242-3.

EDITOR'S NOTE: If you would like to support Banks as he prepares to travel to the Eugene, Oregon for the U.S. Olympic Trials, you can send donations via Venmo: @Donavon-Banks or Cashapp: $DonavonBanks . Any support is greatly appreciated.
