Griffins, Lady Raiders Take North DeSoto Relays Titles!

NORTH DESOTO HC ROBERT MADISON TALKS TO A HURDLER AT THE MANSFIELD MEET

Thanks to Javonte Taylor, the team trophy for the boys' champion did not have to travel far after Wednesday's North DeSoto Relays. Taylor won the high jump (6-4) and the triple jump (46-2). He also jumped 21-6.5 to add a couple of points to his 22-point performance.

In all, North DeSoto scored 105 points to beat a salty Airline squad coming off back-to-back wins to open the 2024 outdoor season. The Vikings scored 96 points despite being without senior leaders Jeremiah Boudreaux and Ladarius Epps.

"I feel like the boys are starting to figure it out," North DeSoto head coach Robert Madison said. "We still have a lot of moving pieces and trying different relay orders and athletes in different events, but the boys are trusting the process and it's really fun just watching them go out there and compete every week."

Other winners for North DeSoto included Dylan Compton, who won the 800m with a time of 2:01.93 and the 4x800m relay (8:49.91).

Huntington, led by Demetria Harris and Kaylie Dupree, won their second meet in five days. The Lady Raiders scored 129 points, almost 20 points better than runner-up North DeSoto.

Last Saturday, Huntington won the Yellow Jacket Relays.

Harris won the triple jump (37-11.5) and the 100m hurdles (14.38). Dupree won the 300m hurdles (48.74) and finished second in the triple jump (33-3). She also ran a leg on Huntington's winning 4x400m relay.

Huntington's other winners included the 4x100m relay (49.73), Janayah Dotson in the 400m (57.41), and Haliey Evans in the long jump (17-1.5)

No athlete in the girls' division scored more points than Airline's Kezyriah Sykes and Benton's Sadie Hamby, who both ended the meet with 28 points each.

Sykes won the 100m (12.27) and 200m (26.11). She also finished second in the 100m hurdles (15.84).

Hamby won the shot put (34-11) and javelin (119-3) and finished second in the discus (124-0). Hamby is the only female thrower who is ranked in the Top 18 in the state in all three throwing events.
