Here are the finalists for the MileSplit LA Boys' Performer of the Week. Congratulations to the finalists. The poll will close on Saturday, March 16 at 9pm. The winner will move on to compete for MileSplit LA Outdoor Athlete of the Year at the end of the HS season.
Ouachita Parish High School Tre Brass won the 200m (22.95) at Neville's Van Leigh Relays. Brass also finished second in the 400m (51.30), and ran legs on both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Both relays finished third.
Alexandria's Hunter Rivet won both the discus and shot put at the Mansfield Wolverines Invitational on Wednesday. His 20 points led the Trojans to the team title. In Week No. 1, Rivet broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 169-5. The old record was held by Will Phillips, who set the mark162-3 in 2007.
Calvary's Jackson Burney appearance on this poll is long overdue. After a slow start during the indoor season as he came back from an illness, Burney defended his LHSAA D2 State Indoor Championship by running a 1:59.31. He opened up his outdoor season in College Station at the Texas A&M's Bluebonnet Invitational. He finished sixth in the 800m with a 1:56.18. It's the fastest 800m time in Louisiana during the first two weeks of the outdoor season.
Huntington's Preston Summage was the MVP of the Yellow Jacket Relays on Saturday. Summage won the 400m (51.09) and then returned to win the 200m (22.56). On Wednesday, Summage double in the same two events at the Mansfield Wolverines Invitational. His time of 49.20 in the 400m was a personal record. Summage is tied for third in the Louisiana with the fastest time in the event.
West Monroe's Jaxon Talley throwing the javelin on a wet grass runway at the Neville's Van Leigh Relays, Talley had throw of 183-6 on his first attempt, breaking the school record of 180-1. He improved to 185-1.5 on his second throw. After the first meet of his high school career, Talley is ranked No. 2 in Louisiana. He is also the No. 1 ranked javelin thrower in the nation among the Class of 2027. In fact, in the MileSplit database, only 17 throwers have ever thrown the javelin farther during their freshmen year.
Lafayette Christian Academy's Treanders Marzel was selected as the Track MVP at the Erath's Snooks Relays Invitational. He doubled in the sprints winning the 100m with a time of 11.17. He came back at the end of the meet to win the 200m with a personal record 22.55. Marzel, who won both events at the Charles Lancon Invite during Week No.1, is undefeated on the season.
Catholic High's William Decuir. Won the BOSH/Pete Boudreaux Invitational 1600m with time of 4:35. It's the fastest time turned in a by freshman during the first two week of the Louisiana high school outdoor season.
