Residents of South Shreveport should not be alarmed if they hear strange noises coming from Lee Hedges Stadium on Saturday morning. It will most likely be the sound of records breaking at C.E. Byrd's Yellow Jacket Relays. We have looked over the entries and have a identified a few athletes who have demonstrated record-breaking potential.

PARKWAY'S DEVON OLIVER

The record-breaking could start as early as 10am with the field events as Parkway junior Devon Oliver is scheduled to compete in both the shot put and discus.

The Yellow Jacket Relays shot put record (52-5) was set by Natchitoches Central's Oluwagbe Ojemakinde in 2021. In the discus, West Monroe's Lee Barr has had the best mark with a 151-3 in 2016.

If Oliver can duplicate what he did on last trip to Lee Hedges Stadium, he will be just fine. In the 2023 Raider Relays, Oliver, only a sophomore at the time, won the shot put (52-9) and discus (153-4).

BYRD'S JENNA KEY

On the track, C.E. Byrd's Jenna Key will be looking to break her own 3200m record of 11:38.90. Key, who signed earlier this year to continue her running career at LSU, finished third in the LHSAA Division 1 State Indoor Championships with a personal indoor record of 11:14.

March has historically been a good month for Key. After breaking the Yellow Jackets Relays record in the event one year ago today, Key went to the Texas Distance Festival where she ran her outdoor personal record of 11:06.

HUNTINGTON'S DEMETRIA HARRIS

Breaking records in the triple jump is nothing new for Demetria Harris, the Huntington senior who led the Lady Raiders to the 2023 LHSAA Class 4A State Championship team title. Harris picked up the event in the off season and broke the meet record at the McNeese Indoor Meet in her first meet competing in the new event.

Saturday, she will be shooting for Lancaster's Taylor Rockwell's record of 36-6 set in 2014. Harris repeatedly jumped further than that mark during the indoor season. She finished second in the triple jump at the LHSAA State Indoor Championships with a mark 37-8.5. Harris also had runner-up performances in the 60m hurdles (8.69) and long jump (18-6.5). Both of the latter marks are personal records. Harris' personal record in the triple jump is 38-5.5 from the Last Chance Qualifier.
